How to Keep Your Furnace Protected from Cold Weather

How to Keep Your Furnace Protected from Cold Weather

Sunny days and frigid nights are in the forecast this week in Oregon and Southwest Washington. Your furnace system is working hard to generate warm air to keep you comfortable, but what happens when the cold weather hits? Here are some ways to keep your heating system protected from cold weather.

#1: Keep your system serviced.

It is important to have a furnace system that is reliable and ready to keep you warm no matter what the weather is doing outside. No one wants to risk having the system break down right when you need it most. The best way to prevent breakdowns like this is to keep your system tuned up. Our experienced team of technicians will clean or replace the air filters, run an energy efficiency check, and ensure there are no parts that may need repair now or soon.  It’s always best to spot potential issues early on so there are no surprises down the road. Just like your car needs tune-ups regularly, so does your heating system!

#2: Clean your air filters.

This is a simple job but a very important one! Cleaning or changing your air filters on a regular basis will help prolong the life of your system and will help prevent breakdowns. One of the most common causes of a furnace breakdown is from accumulated dirt and dust within the filter. Check the filters every other month, especially when you are using the system a lot.

#3: Check your insulation.

The more insulation you have in your home, the more efficient it will be. Insulation and your furnace system work hand in hand with each other. The insulation helps keep the warm air inside that your furnace system is pumping in. While you’re checking your insulation, make sure you have windows and doors properly sealed so you can minimize leaks that way too.

Whether it’s a repair on your furnace or a full replacement, we will get the job on-time and within your budget. If you need a new furnace this year, now is the time to act.
