Kids are out for summer and the adventures have begun. Make sure that repairing your air conditioning system isn’t one of those adventures that you add to the list! There are several important reasons why you should service your system this summer.

#1: You can avoid expensive system breakdowns.
Regular maintenance on your system means you can avoid expensive, unexpected breakdowns. When the summer heat is blazing, the last thing you want to have is a system that won’t work. Regular maintenance appointments will ensure that everything is working efficiently and that there are no broken or worn internal parts that could pose a problem.

#2: You will extend the life of the system.
Summer is the perfect time to get your system tuned up, before the cool and wet weather returns. Just like a car needs regular oil changes and tune ups, so does your air conditioning system. This will help keep things running well, but it will also extend the life of your system, so you can get at least 10 to 15 years out of it.

When you schedule your service appointment with us, we will clean the air filters, run an energy efficiency check, and ensure that all the inside parts of the machine are functioning at peak efficiency. We will discuss any issues that we see and talk about options for repair or replacement.

Your air conditioning system plays a big role in your overall comfort this summer season! Summer is a very busy time for our experts at Hybrid Heating and Air Conditioning, so be sure that you schedule your preventative maintenance appointment right away!  If you know that your system is so old and inefficient that it won’t make it through another summer, we can help you find the right air conditioner that will work with your home’s unique layout and most importantly, your budget. We are standing by to help, so call us soon.

Springtime in the Northwest is a mix of warm days and rain, and it’s time to start planning for the summer heat. If you’re considering getting out your window air conditioning unit this summer for relief from the heat, take note that there is a better and more efficient option available to you! Here are some reasons why you should say goodbye to your window AC unit and invest in a ductless heat pump or central air conditioner this year.

#1: Window units take up unnecessary space.
AC window units are big, bulky, and block natural sunlight from coming through your windows. They can decrease curb appeal because they’re sticking out from the side of the house, too.

#2: Window units don’t provide ample cooling.
Depending on how big the space is in your home that you need cooled, window AC units are usually only effective in small bedrooms or small apartments. If you have an area like a living room, family room, or entertainment space, window units simply won’t provide the level of cooling that you need to stay comfortable on a hot day.

#3: Window units are not energy efficient.
A new central air conditioner or ductless heat pump come with superior energy efficiency ratings. Window AC units simply do not, and you may see an increase in your utility bill during the summer if you are running the unit a lot. A new cooling system will save energy, which is great for the environment, but it will also save you money over time! Not to mention, you will stay more comfortable!

#4: Window units are loud.
What’s that? You can’t hear what’s going on in the other room when your window air conditioning unit is running at peak capacity? Window units are noisy, but a new central air conditioning system or ductless heat pump are so quiet that you will barely notice that they’re on. You will be surprised at how quiet they operate, even when they are running continuously during the warm weather.

It’s a fact: window air conditioning units simply can’t compete with the energy efficiency of a new central air conditioning system or ductless heat pump. These systems are worth every dollar invested and over time, they will help reduce your utility bill and save energy. Not to mention, they will add value to your home and keep you comfortable for years to come! Not sure which system is right for you and your budget? Our experienced team of professionals at Hybrid Heating and Air Conditioning will help you make the right decision. So, if you’re thinking about hauling your heavy air conditioning unit into your house soon, stop and reconsider what other options you have. Contact us today for information!

This week, the Portland metro area will see record heat. Temperatures are expected to soar into the 100s, with some places reaching upwards of 110 degrees! With these kinds of temperatures, it’s important to take care of yourself and be sure to listen to any heat-related warnings. The United States Weather Service has issued an extreme heat advisory for our area, so it’s important to take note and find places to stay cool. Here are some extra tips on how to stay cool.

Tip #1: Know what your equipment expectations are.
When it comes to your air conditioning system, there are certain equipment expectations that we have to keep in mind. We have to design our systems per code for outdoor temperatures of 95 degrees. Systems are designed to maintain a 20-degree difference from indoors to the outdoors. So, at 95 degrees, it needs to maintain a comfortable 75 degrees indoors. At 107, it should be 87 indoors. If we designed systems to maintain 75 degrees inside and it was 107 outside, the systems would be oversized all of the other days of the year. Oversized equipment will stop and start constantly and will use a lot more electricity because of all of the starting and stopping.

Note: if you own a heat pump system, they are sized for heating capacity, which is most often oversized on the cooling side. This means that the heat pump can produce more cooling when needed on hot days like we’re having this week. That said, they can struggle to maintain 75 on a 107-degree day.

Tip #2: Stay hydrated.
It’s very important to drink plenty of water when the weather is hot. Even if you drink a lot of water on a regular basis, on hot days, increase your intake even more. Keeping plenty of fluids going means that your body can help keep itself cool and you’ll reduce your risk for developing heat stroke or another heat related illness/sickness. In addition, dress lightly – the lighter the clothing, the less sweat and loss of fluid there will be.

Tip #3: Keep your system serviced.
Your HVAC system is one of those things that you might forget about servicing regularly, but it’s in fact one of the most important things to keep maintained. The beginning of the spring or summer is a good time to get your system maintenance appointment set. That way, you’ll be sure that all of the inside components of the machine are working well and problem spots will be pointed out in plenty of time.

Is your air conditioning not reliable? Or maybe it’s time to install a brand new air conditioning system so you can avoid breakdowns when you need your system the most! Contact us today for options on the right equipment for your home or office and we’ll also let you know what rebates or other incentives are currently happening!

Summertime is almost here and that means the kids are out of school and you’ll probably be doing a lot of fun things together. This can also be an expensive few months because of vacations, day trips, and other outings that cost money. Looking to save money in as many ways as possible? The warm weather will be here to stay for a while, and that means your air conditioner will be put to the test. Here are some helpful air conditioner tips that can help save you money this summer.

#1: Energy.
If you service your air conditioner before summer officially starts, it will be ready to tackle the hottest summer days with ease. We will make sure that your cooling system is working well by checking to make sure the parts are functioning as they should and that there are no repairs or other updates needed. We’ll also clean and/or replace the filters if necessary, which can not only reduce energy use, but also prolong the life of the system.

#2: Vents.
Did you know that blocking vents in your home not only causes inefficient cooling, but it can also cause your system to work harder and increase your energy bill? Move around your furniture and make sure that all vents in your home are free and clear and are able to do their job.

#3: Temperature.
Keep your thermostat at one temperature. Adjusting it up or down all the time will cause your system to work harder but it will also mess with your utility bill. Keeping your thermostat adjusted at one temperature at all times means your home will be kept cool and comfortable all the time and your energy bill won’t come as a huge shock.

#4: Fans.
Your air conditioner is probably your best friend in the summer months, but small fans can also help keep you cool. One way to reduce energy use is to use fans at night to keep cool air circulating.

Not sure if your cooling system is efficient? Let us help you find a system that cools well while keeping your energy bill as low as possible. Call us at 503-357-5663 to set up a convenient appointment.

Springtime is here and the days are getting longer and warmer. Before you know it, summer will be here and you’ll be outside enjoying the heat of the day. Summer in the Pacific Northwest is amazing, but hot weather also brings its own health-related troubles if you don’t take care of yourself. On hot spring and summer days, the National Weather Service will oftentimes issue a variety of heat-related warnings. If you hear any of these issued, take note and make a point to stay cool. Here’s how to stay cool in the spring and summer heat.

Tip #1: Get your air conditioning serviced.
When the hot weather returns and you go to turn on your air conditioning and it doesn’t work, imagine how frustrated you will be! To avoid breakdowns when you need your air conditioning the most, get your cooling system serviced now, before you need it. That way, you’ll ensure that it is ready to go when you do go to turn it on to stay cool. We’ll come out and make sure all of the inside components are working well, we’ll check the filter and change it if needed, and we’ll also point out any problem spots that may cause you an issue later down the road and offer a solution to get it fixed quickly.

Tip #2: Drink a lot of water.
Even if you drink a lot of water on a regular basis, on hot days, increase your water intake even more. Staying hydrated allows your body the ability to cool off and keep all of your internal organs working the way they should. In addition, be sure that your pets are taken care of too, and leave them plenty of cool water out at all times with a cool place to rest.

Tip #3: Open your windows early in the morning.
Each morning before the weather gets hot, open the windows and doors in your home to allow for the cool morning breeze to sweep through your home. Keep it open for as long as possible to get the cool air in, then button up your home and windows and keep the shades closed for the remainder of the day. This can help keep the home cooler throughout the day.

Hot weather can lead to dangerous heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke, heat exhaustion, and more. Make sure you call us today to get your air conditioning serviced so you can avoid any inconvenient breakdowns when the weather is at the hottest! If you do not have a cooling system in place and you’ve decided that this is the year that you want to stay comfortable inside, contact us today for information on what cooling systems are out there and what rebates and incentives are available.
