This summer in the Pacific Northwest has been a little unusual. There have been a lot of cloudy days, but the humidity has been very apparent! The humidity can make people feel uncomfortable so achieving optimal indoor air comfort with your air conditioning system is important. Here is how humidity will affect your air conditioning.

Air conditioning systems are created to remove heat and moisture from the air. So, when the humidity is high, your air conditioner will need to work harder. If you have high indoor humidity, you will notice that the air feels clammy and moist and you may notice there are foggy windows and a musty odor in the home. While your AC system is meant to remove moisture from the air, if the humidity gets extra high, it is hard for your system to keep up. This is where dehumidifiers can help. This can be installed on your HVAC system and will work to pull moisture from the air before it’s sent through the duct work of your home. They can also be paired with your AC system so you can adjust the humidity level and temperature of your home all at once.

The result: cool, comfortable air all summer long. If your AC system can’t keep up because it is old or out of date, our team at Hybrid Heating and Air Conditioning can help. Systems that are working hard to keep you cool could cause your energy bill to spike and that’s never a welcome surprise. If you’re noticing a musty odor in your home or foggy windows and clammy air, contact us today to talk about your options! We are experts in indoor comfort and can offer tips that will help you enjoy the rest of your summer!

When you schedule your service appointment with us, we will clean the air filters, run an energy efficiency check, and ensure that all the inside parts of the machine are functioning at peak efficiency. We will discuss any issues that we see and talk about options for repair or replacement.

Spring official starts in just a couple of weeks, and that means we’ll have more sunshine, green grass, and blooming flowers. For people that live with seasonal allergies and asthma, this time of year could mean some miserable symptoms like coughing, sneezing, itchy and watery eyes, and more. But did you know that your indoor heating and cooling system can bring in those outside pollutants to your home? Here’s how your heating and cooling system affects your allergies.

Your HVAC system has an air filter that helps catch dust, dirt, pet dander, pollen, mold, and other pollutants that cause issues with asthma and allergies. Over time, these build up in the filter and they need to be replaced or cleaned. If filter cleaning or replacement is not done regularly, the buildup will be recirculated through the air in your home and that means you will likely notice some allergy symptoms. Set a remind to check your filters and clean them every other month at the minimum.

Another way to avoid poor indoor air quality is to stay on top of preventative maintenance appointments for your heating and cooling system. Just like you would take your car in for regular oil changes, so should you remember to maintain one of the most important systems in your home. Spring is the perfect time to schedule your tune-up with Hybrid Heating and Air Conditioning. We will clean and/or replace filters, run an efficiency check on your machine to ensure that it’s working at its peak, then check to make sure there are no outstanding issues with the inside components that may cause an issue later down the road. If there is anything that we notice, we will let you know what needs to be repaired or replaced and talk about what our recommendations are. With the upcoming shift in season, you will want to be ready to handle whatever mother nature throws your way!

One more way to bolster indoor air quality and reduce seasonal allergy symptoms is to install an air purification system. These work alongside your heating and cooling system to clean your air and reduce pathogens, allergens, and other particles that try to make their way inside. Customers that use air purification systems notice a difference right away in their quality of life. We have a variety of different air purification systems available as options, so contact us today to see which one is right for you!

Need a system replacement, a preventative maintenance appointment, repair, or information on an air purification system? Contact us today for more information, so you can get everything ready just in time for springtime.

Local weather experts are predicting that this month temperatures will drop more than they have all winter. That means you will be relying on your heating system even more than you might have already. Did you know that insulation in your home plays a big role in the overall comfort of your home and the overall effectiveness of your heating system? Here is how insulation affects your heating system.

Poor insulation or incomplete insulation will allow heat to escape through your roof and walls. If you notice that your rain is drying more quickly on different parts of your walls or roof, this could be a sign of poor or missing insulation in that area. When you think about how much it costs to heat your home during the winter, you don’t want that to be wasted. Insulation is a practical, easy way to reduce your energy bill and conserve energy, all while still staying comfortable. It will also help in the summertime when cool air needs to be kept inside and warm air needs to stay outside. The most important places to have quality insulation are:

  • Attic: heat rises, and it will escape through your attic and roof. If you have insulation in your attic, you can save up to 30% in energy and will allow your heating system to not work as hard
  • Wall: warm air will escape through windows and gaps around your doors and cold outdoor wind could also be pushed inside through those gaps
  • Floor: Heat radiates through flooring and underfloor insulation will help reduce heat loss by trapping the warm air into the fiber
  • Crawl space: The crawl space in your home may not be used much but if it’s not insulated well, the outdoors will try to make their way indoors. This could mean pests could get in and mold or mildew could form too. Insulation will not only keep your home warmer, but it will also help in keeping moisture at bay.
  • Basement: Basements can be cold, but with insulation you can have a more comfortable, moisture-free area that saves energy.

Insulation is an affordable way to keep your home warmer this winter and cooler in the summer. The investment will pay off when you see your utility bills start decreasing. Perhaps you’ve done the insulation and you’re still seeing high energy bills. Our experienced team of professionals at Hybrid Heating and Air Conditioning can help! Routine preventative maintenance can help point out any issues and if you need a repair or replacement for your furnace, we can help with that too! Contact us today. There is nothing better than year-round comfort!

Life gets busy with the hustle and bustle of work and other life activities, and sometimes staying on top of cleaning it is simply hard to do. But did you know that if you neglect regular cleaning in your home, your heating and cooling system can be affected? The motor and the various electrical components are critical to the seamless functioning of the system, but your air filters are a very important part of how the furnace or heat pump works, too. Air filters catch debris, dust and dirt and they need to be cleaned or replaced every few months. Doing this on a regular basis will help prolong the life of your system and it will also help you breathe cleaner air, too.

Dust and pet hair:
Dust and pet hair builds up quick! If you don’t stay on top of regular dusting, or if you have pets that are known to shed a lot, there’s a good chance that your air filter is going to fill up quickly with pet dander, hair, and dust. Make dusting, sweeping, and vacuuming a top priority so you can reduce the amount of debris that flows into the machine and air filter.

Preventative maintenance:
Your air filter should be cleaned or replaced every other month. If you have noticed that your filter is getting full every couple of weeks rather than every few months, there are some ways to help this. The first step is to stay on top of regular preventative maintenance for the machine. Appointments with heating and cooling specialists will allow you to have the peace of mind that all is well with your system. Our team of technicians will take a close look at the system and make sure there are no repairs or adjustments that need to be made. We will also check for energy efficiency and we’re glad to answer any questions you have.

If your system is over a decade old, there’s a good chance that it is on its way out and that a new replacement is something you should be planning ahead of time for. We’re happy to offer some options for you based off of your budget as well as your home or commercial building’s unique layout.

It’s a new year and it’s the perfect time to talk to us about getting your preventative maintenance appointment scheduled. Or, if a new system is something you need to start thinking about, let us provide options for you. We look forward to serving you!

The holiday season has officially begun and for many people that means looking for ways to cut costs and save money on day to day things, so they can splurge on gifts for friends and family.  Did you know that your heating system can save you money? A system that functions at peak efficiency will not only work better for a longer amount of time, but it will also help keep your utility bills lower. Here are some helpful ways to have a more efficient heating system this winter.

Tip #1: Set your thermostat.
If you are running your heating system while you’re away all day, you’re wasting money and energy. Install a programmable thermostat and program it to turn down when you’re gone and back up right before you return. These thermostats allow you to control the temperature to be exactly what you want. The result: a comfortable, evenly-heated home and a more affordable utility bill! We can provide options on programmable thermostats, so contact us today for information!

Tip #2: Clean and replace air filters regularly.
If you plan on using your heating system throughout the winter, it’s important to stay on top of air filter cleaning and replacement. Dirty filters will greatly reduce the overall efficiency of the heater’s blower motor and it makes your system work harder. This translates to a higher energy bill and it is hard on your system. Make sure to clean or replace your filters every other month.

Tip #3: Make sure your insulation is up to par and sealing is good.
Do you know if you have quality insulation in your home? If you don’t, you could be losing heat. In addition, if your windows and doors in your home are old or not sealed correctly, you could be unknowingly leaking in cold air and warm air out. This causes your furnace system to work harder than necessary and you’ll see rising utility bills.

Winter is a cold time of year and in order to stay warm, it’s critical to keep your heating system running at its peak efficiency. Not only will you be more comfortable, but your wallet will be more comfortable, too! If your heating system is not ready to tackle the upcoming winter weather, call our experienced team at Hybrid Heating and Air Conditioning. We can help you with a preventative maintenance tune-up or can get you set up with a full system replacement as well!

It’s not wintertime yet, but the weather is cooling down significantly and more homeowners around the Northwest are reaching to turn the heater on and keep them comfortable. Now is the time that your heater is being put to the test. But what if your heating system is already showing signs of weakening? It may need some attention. Here are some signs that your heater needs repair.

#1: It’s not reliable.
Is your heater not turning on when you want it to? Maybe you have designated it to a certain temperature, but it isn’t adjusting as it should. Or, if it’s stopping in the middle of runtime, there could be a problem internally.  Ignoring signs like this could cause the system to completely break down and that could mean you’re in for some costly repairs or even a full furnace replacement at some point down the road. Your home deserves a reliable heating system, so be sure to call us to schedule a repair or tune up right away. We can determine what issues are happening and recommend what the next steps are.

#2: You’re paying a lot in utility bills.
Once the cold weather hits and you’re running your furnace more often, it’s normal to see an increase in the price of your energy bill because you’re using more gas and electricity. However, if you notice a huge spike that seems out of the ordinary when compared to other winter months, get your furnace checked to make sure something isn’t going wrong. Utility bill spikes can indicate an issue with the machine itself.

#3: You’re hearing unusual sounds.
Clanging, banging, clicks, or other sounds that don’t sound like the regular mechanics of your heating system should be checked out right away. Loud and unusual noises can be a sign that there are internal components or parts that need to be readjusted or should be looked at, such as a broken blower.

Thanksgiving and Christmas will be here in a matter of weeks and that means you will need to have a reliable heating system to keep you and your family or guests comfortable. We can help with getting your furnace tuned up and maintained well so it can keep you warm for the rest of the season, and beyond!

Renovating a home can be an exciting and exhausting process. A home renovation can give homeowners the home they want without having to move and for most people, it allows them to make the changes they want within the budget they determine. If you are considering renovating your home, don’t forget about your HVAC system. If it’s old and out of date, replacing it as part of your home remodeling project is a great idea. Be realistic about your renovation expectations, calculate your budget, and determine what things you want to complete first. Here are some other tips on including HVAC replacement in your home remodel.

Tip #1: Do you research on HVAC companies.
There are a lot of different companies out there, so it’s important to look closely at your options and do your research. Look first for what experience the company has and how long they’ve been in business. Ask them about what kind of jobs they do the most and ask them to provide information on recent jobs they’ve completed. Next, look online for positive reviews on Angie’s List, Yelp, Google, Facebook, and most importantly Better Business Bureau. If there are a lot of negative reviews, this should be a red flag, but  read thru them to see what the negative reviews are.  In addition, look to see what services the company offers. They should be able to provide a comprehensive list of services that includes not just installation of a new heating/cooling system, but one that does replacements, repairs, and regular preventative maintenance service appointments.

Tip #2: Determine which system is right for you.
Your new HVAC system is a key component of your home and it will be something you will rely on for many years to come, which means you can count on it to stay comfortable when you need it the most. New systems are also energy efficient and can help you save money over time. Not sure which system or system size is right for your home? Our HVAC professionals at Hybrid Heating & Air Conditioning will take a look at your home and its specific layout and suggest which system is right for you. Whether it’s a heat pump, ductless system, or gas furnace, we will make sure that you have options that work well with your home and most importantly, your budget.

Remodeling your home is a big job, so let us help with part of it! We will explain your choices and help you find a system that will give you the reliability you need. Now that fall is here, the weather starts to get cooler and you may find yourself turning up the thermostat a bit to stay warm. Your HVAC system is meant to keep you comfortable all season long, but sometimes things happen and there may be an issue that needs to be fixed. How do you know if you have a problem with your HVAC system? Here are some indicators.

Does the system make weird sounds or put off weird odors?
Out of the ordinary smells or sounds are usually a sign that something is going wrong with your HVAC unit. Sometimes, these could also be dangerous, so it is important to not ignore the sound or smell for long. If you hear something banging in the system, it could mean that there is something loose or broken inside the machine. If you hear a loud screeching noise, it could indicate that a belt is loose or worn. If you smell something like rotten eggs, that could indicate a gas leak and you should get out of the house immediately and call the professionals for help. Even if the sound or smell only happens occasionally, it’s a good idea to get it looked at in case there is something wrong with it. If you put it off for a long time, it could end up damaging the system even worse.

Is your energy efficiency dropping?
If you notice your utility bill spiking, there is a good chance that your energy efficiency is dropping and there could be a problem with your HVAC system. Without regular maintenance, your HVAC system will not be as energy efficient as it could be. In addition, if there is something happening on the inside of the unit and a repair needs to be made, it could be causing a drop in efficiency. If you notice a big change in your utility bill from month to month or even when compared to last fall to this fall, it’s time to call our experienced team of licensed HVAC technicians to help determine what the issue is.

The sooner you catch HVAC problems, the better it is for you and your family’s comfort, as well as the system as a whole. Contact us for a preventative maintenance appointment today or to have your system looked at for a potential repair. We’re standing by to help.
