We are well into summer and that means warmer weather brings increased pollen counts. For people living with asthma and allergy symptoms, this can bring discomfort. But breathing cleaner air inside can help reduce those symptoms, no matter what’s going on outside. Here are some tips on how to improve your indoor air quality this summer.

#1: Keep your filters furnace filters cleaned.
If you’re running your air conditioning a lot this summer, ensure that the filters are cleaned and replaced regularly. If you neglect this task, you are bringing dirty air into your home that has significant dust, debris and pollen in it. Make sure you clean or replace your filters at least every 1 to 2 months. This not only helps with better indoor air quality, but it helps keep your system operating at peak efficiency, which increases your system’s life span.

#2: Use an air purification system.
Air purifiers will help clean the air that is distributed through your system. These machines remove allergens, bacteria, and other molecules that contribute to poor air quality in your home. Contact us to talk about which air purification systems

could work alongside your existing heating and cooling system. They work year-round!

#3: Stay on top of maintenance of your professional machine.
Just like your car needs regular tune-ups, so does your heating and cooling system! The official first day of summer is just a week away, and we have already seen hot temperatures! People around the Pacific Northwest will be using their air conditioning systems regularly for the next couple of months. Want to save money while you do that? Here are some helpful ways to save energy this summer.

Tip #1: Keep vegetation away from your outside unit.
The outside unit of your cooling system needs to have weeds any other overgrown grass or vegetation removed and kept at least two feet away. This allows the system to pull in air efficiently and not use unnecessary amounts of energy.

Tip #2: Change your air filters.
Dirty or clogged air filters will cause your AC system to work harder that it needs to. This means you’ll likely see a steep increase in your utility bill. In addition, if your system is running harder than is necessary, it could decrease the lifespan of the unit, and could even cause an unexpected breakdown that could be expensive and frustrating. Your air filters should be cleaned or replaced every other month.

Tip #3: Keep heat away from your thermostat.
Did you know that if you have heat producing appliances or products your thermostat, it could produce heat and cause your thermostat to inaccurately read the room temperature?  Ensure your candles, lamps, or appliances like a toaster are set far enough away from the thermostat so it doesn’t interfere.

Tip #4: Get a programmable thermostat for your home.
We love programmable thermostats! They can save significant amounts of energy over the year, and that means you could save hundreds of dollars at the end of the year! These thermostats allow you to set the temperature to whatever is most comfortable, and then you can program it to turn up, down, or off, whenever you want – even if you are away from home. They are affordable to install and work with almost any existing HVAC system or air conditioning system.

Tip #5: Stay on top of preventative maintenance.
Your cooling system needs regular maintenance! During these preventative maintenance appointments, our experienced team will run an energy efficiency check, clean or change the filters, ensure the inside components and mechanisms are working properly, and will let you know if any repairs need to be made.

Summer is almost here and it’s going to get hot! Make sure your cooling system can keep you comfortable! Not sure your AC system is ready to handle another summer? Contact us today for a quote on which new system could be right for you and your budget!

Springtime in the Northwest is a mix of warm days and rain, and it’s time to start planning for the summer heat. If you’re considering getting out your window air conditioning unit this summer for relief from the heat, take note that there is a better and more efficient option available to you! Here are some reasons why you should say goodbye to your window AC unit and invest in a ductless heat pump or central air conditioner this year.

#1: Window units take up unnecessary space.
AC window units are big, bulky, and block natural sunlight from coming through your windows. They can decrease curb appeal because they’re sticking out from the side of the house, too.

#2: Window units don’t provide ample cooling.
Depending on how big the space is in your home that you need cooled, window AC units are usually only effective in small bedrooms or small apartments. If you have an area like a living room, family room, or entertainment space, window units simply won’t provide the level of cooling that you need to stay comfortable on a hot day.

#3: Window units are not energy efficient.
A new central air conditioner or ductless heat pump come with superior energy efficiency ratings. Window AC units simply do not, and you may see an increase in your utility bill during the summer if you are running the unit a lot. A new cooling system will save energy, which is great for the environment, but it will also save you money over time! Not to mention, you will stay more comfortable!

#4: Window units are loud.
What’s that? You can’t hear what’s going on in the other room when your window air conditioning unit is running at peak capacity? Window units are noisy, but a new central air conditioning system or ductless heat pump are so quiet that you will barely notice that they’re on. You will be surprised at how quiet they operate, even when they are running continuously during the warm weather.

It’s a fact: window air conditioning units simply can’t compete with the energy efficiency of a new central air conditioning system or ductless heat pump. These systems are worth every dollar invested and over time, they will help reduce your utility bill and save energy. Not to mention, they will add value to your home and keep you comfortable for years to come! Not sure which system is right for you and your budget? Our experienced team of professionals at Hybrid Heating and Air Conditioning will help you make the right decision. So, if you’re thinking about hauling your heavy air conditioning unit into your house soon, stop and reconsider what other options you have. Contact us today for information!

Life gets busy with the hustle and bustle of work and other life activities, and sometimes staying on top of cleaning it is simply hard to do. But did you know that if you neglect regular cleaning in your home, your heating and cooling system can be affected? The motor and the various electrical components are critical to the seamless functioning of the system, but your air filters are a very important part of how the furnace or heat pump works, too. Air filters catch debris, dust and dirt and they need to be cleaned or replaced every few months. Doing this on a regular basis will help prolong the life of your system and it will also help you breathe cleaner air, too.

Dust and pet hair:
Dust and pet hair builds up quick! If you don’t stay on top of regular dusting, or if you have pets that are known to shed a lot, there’s a good chance that your air filter is going to fill up quickly with pet dander, hair, and dust. Make dusting, sweeping, and vacuuming a top priority so you can reduce the amount of debris that flows into the machine and air filter.

Preventative maintenance:
Your air filter should be cleaned or replaced every other month. If you have noticed that your filter is getting full every couple of weeks rather than every few months, there are some ways to help this. The first step is to stay on top of regular preventative maintenance for the machine. Appointments with heating and cooling specialists will allow you to have the peace of mind that all is well with your system. Our team of technicians will take a close look at the system and make sure there are no repairs or adjustments that need to be made. We will also check for energy efficiency and we’re glad to answer any questions you have.

If your system is over a decade old, there’s a good chance that it is on its way out and that a new replacement is something you should be planning ahead of time for. We’re happy to offer some options for you based off of your budget as well as your home or commercial building’s unique layout.

It’s a new year and it’s the perfect time to talk to us about getting your preventative maintenance appointment scheduled. Or, if a new system is something you need to start thinking about, let us provide options for you. We look forward to serving you!

Winter is here & that means winter storms, rain, and freezing weather will be common. Is your home ready to handle the next few months of below freezing temperatures? Here are some helpful tips on how to get your home winterized and ready.

Get your furnace maintenance appointment on the books.
Winter is the perfect time to get your annual preventative maintenance appointment set up. Winter temperatures mean that you will be relying on your heating system to do a lot of work for you to keep you warm, so it’s critical to make sure it’s tuned up every year. Just like you would take care of your car’s oil change, so should you make sure your system is checked out on a regular basis. We will clean or change the air filters, run an efficiency check on the system, and make sure there are no parts that need to be adjusted, repaired or replaced.

Install a programmable thermostat.
Programmable thermostats are one of the most convenient ways to help keep you and your family comfortable this winter. They allow you to program the thermostat to be exactly what you want, when you want it, and that also means you get to save money throughout the year! Program the system to turn down when you’re not home or when you’re sleeping at night, then set it to turn up when you return home so it’s warm enough. Programmable thermostats work with most heating and cooling systems and are affordable. Call us today for information on which thermostat would be a good option for you.

Seal leaky windows and doors.
If your windows and doors are old or are leaking cold air in and warm air outside, your heating system will have to work extra hard. Be sure to seal your windows and doors around the edges and perimeters, and if the doors and windows are so old that even sealing won’t help, it may be time to replace them altogether for new energy efficient materials. Thermostats don’t generally have a lifespan, but will usually last about 10 years, on average. If your thermostat is at least a decade old, it can start to malfunction because of the wiring or because of dust accumulation. Here are some other signs that your thermostat might not be working properly.

#1: Your thermostat isn’t showing any signs of life.
This one is obvious, but if your thermostat doesn’t have any power or is totally unresponsive when you try to turn it on or off, there is probably something wrong with it. If there is no change in the temperature of your home when you adjust the temperature on the thermostat, or if the display unit is not lighting up, check to see if batteries need to be replaced. If that isn’t the issue, it may be broken entirely and may need to be replaced.

#2: Your heater doesn’t turn on or it won’t turn off.
If your heater isn’t turning on, there could be a defect in the thermostat’s wiring that is causing an interruption in the electrical signals that are being sent to your heating system. In the same way, if your heater is running continually and won’t turn off when you want it to, this could mean there is an issue with the wiring. This should be checked out by one of our heating and cooling specialists at Hybrid Heating and Air Conditioning. If it’s not your thermostat causing the problem, it could be a problem with the heating unit itself and that requires a professional look as well.

#3: Temperature of the room and thermostat temperature do not match.
When you designate your thermostat to be 70 degrees, the temperature of the room should be 70 degrees as well. If the temps do not match, it could be a sign that your thermostat isn’t doing its job. Fluctuating temperatures throughout the house can cause your heating system to work harder than it should and could increase your energy bill. If you’re noticing that the room temperatures are colder or hotter than what your thermostat says it is, be sure to get it checked out to make sure that it isn’t faulty.

If your thermostat is old and defective, replacing it with a new programmable thermostat can be a great option. Programmable thermostats are well made and allow you to control the temperature to be exactly how you want it, even allowing you to set a time to have the heat turn back on. For example, turn down the thermostat during the hours you’re away, then program it to turn up 20 minutes before you plan on getting home. This will allow for some time for the house to warm up before you get home, so you don’t have to walk into a cold space. These thermostats are affordably priced and in the long run, they can save you money because of the energy savings associated with them.

Call us today to talk to our professional HVAC team! We will work with you to see which thermostat is right for your home!
