The summer has been incredibly hot this year in the Pacific Northwest and that means your HVAC system has likely been put to good use. Has it been repaired a lot this year or is it old and you know that it needs to be completely replaced? If you’re wondering when the right time to replace your furnace is, here are some simple tips that can help.
Tip #1: Is the system inefficient?
When you use your heater or air conditioner, do you notice that your energy bill gets higher and higher? When you get your utility bill every month, look at how the energy is being allotted and see if there is a spike in price when your air conditioner or heater is in use a lot. This could be an indicator that it’s inefficient. Unfortunately, if your system is older, it will likely slow down and become more inefficient over time. This could require a full replacement of your system.
Tip #2: How much have you spent on repairs?
If you’re spending significant money in repairs every year to your HVAC unit, you may need to evaluate if you’re spending more than you need to and if it would be more cost effective to just replace the system altogether. There are a lot of options out there that can fit your budget. The average monthly payment of a new system is often equal to one repair appointment. In addition, you will also save money on your energy bill with a new and efficient system.
Tip #3: How old is the system?
Unfortunately, your HVAC system is not built to last forever. Over time and years of usage, the mechanics of it will start to wear out. Find out how old the system is and how reliable it will be in the coming years and if it’s already had a lot of issues, you will need to weight the cost of repair versus replacement. If your unit is more than 15 years old, contact us today for a quote on a new system before the chilly nights and days of fall and winter are here.
