HVAC Maintenance To Do’s For Autumn

Autumn has arrived! The rain and leaves are falling, and it’s getting windier and chillier outside. The arrival of fall weather means that there are some important maintenance items to complete on your to-do list, especially when it comes to maintaining your HVAC system. Here are some important things you should complete in the autumn.

Item #1: Make sure the outside of your HVAC system is clear of debris.
It is important to keep debris, dirt, leaves, and other vegetation away from the outside of your heat pump or HVAC unit. This will ensure that airflow is not obstructed and that no damage will occur to the unit because of debris accumulation.

Item #2: Keep your indoor registers unobstructed.
Make sure that your indoor vents and registers are not covered. Move any heavy furniture, tables, or drapes away from registers, as this could prevent heat from reaching the areas of your home that need it. Blocked registers could also cause unnecessary strain on the unit.

Item #3:  Change air filters.
Inspect the filters of your HVAC unit and replace them on a regular basis. We recommend changing them every other month. Clean filters will help reduce the flow of indoor contaminants coming into your home, which means you and your family will be breathing cleaner, healthier air.

Item #4: Call the professionals.
There are some HVAC tune-up items that should be left to the professionals and that’s where we can help! Scheduling regular tune-ups with our experienced team means we will come out and provide cleaning of the inside of the unit, as well as check to make sure all the parts are working at their peak. If we spot anything amiss, we will let you know and get it fixed so you will not have to experience a heating malfunction on a cold autumn day.

  1. I didn’t realize that it was a good idea to have your air filters changed when autumn comes around! I’ll make sure that I get that done as soon as possible. They must be pretty clogged up by now!
